Fall semester classes and news

2024 'Lily flower' Wenshan Baozhong
 ### Let's start with the bad news for my US customers: The Taiwan Post Office has stopped shipping packages to the US via Airmail or EMS. Since I was relying on these services, I can't ship to the US with low rates anymore, for the time being. Tariffs and the technical difficulty of getting customers to pay for customs is what is causing this problem. For very large orders, FedEx or DHL might make sense (contact me directly in this case). Let's hope that this issue will be resolved soon. Or have your orders sent overseas when you are travelling, or to friends in Canada if you live close to the northern border.###
The second news is the restart of my free online tea classes on my YouTube channel. This fall, we will focus on Baozhong tea with this sampler of 8 Baozhong teas (and a free BiLuoChun sample to show the difference between green tea and fresh Baozhong!) My first class will be on Sunday August 31st, 10 AM Eastern time (NYC). However, we will only start tasting the teas from the sampler on September 14th. This Sunday, I will mostly speak about the latest news from the summer and the program for the fall classes. Then on September 7th, I will review the beverages in another Zola novel. This gives you time to receive your sampler if you order now.
The Spring 2025 charcoal roasted Dong Ding Oolong from Yong Lung is available. The 2024 version was such a success that it sold out early this year. This new tea has enabled me to create a new sampler for the seasons of Dong Ding.and what makes this sampler even more interesting than last year is that it contains the fresh version of this spring Oolong, before the charcoal roast. If you had the sampler last year, I recommend that you just purchase these 2 teas (while inventory lasts). I got very good feedback about both teas!

This summer, I also selected another Tie Guan Yin from Anxi and a Tie Luo Han with a high roast. These heavier profiles are more suited for the fall and winter, though.
In the red (fully oxidized) tea category, I added 2 very fine reds from Taiwan's wild East Coast. They are the jassid bitten kind with amazing honey scents. Both versions have these wonderful scents. The top version has more intensity in the scents and more natural sweetness. This summer, I've brewed them regularly to make ice tea for my kids. -They are young adults now, but they'll always be my kids!- I didn't add any sugar and they still loved these teas!

"Food in Taiwan is better when you recommend it", said a friend from university I hadn't seen for 30 years this summer. This praise of my tasting skills made my day! A tea friend with whom I had an online tea chat said something similar. He told me that compared to other suppliers my teas feel like they underwent a selection process. They are all of high quality, even the cheaper ones. Indeed, teas in my selection are teas that I'm drinking also myself, so I do my best to select leaves I find enjoyable.

And I hope this will also be the case for this Wenshan Baozhong sampler this fall!
See you on YouTube soon again!
