Cooked yellow mark puerh cake, CNNP from 2003.
Today, I continue my November challenge with a new tea in my puerh selection, even though it is 20 years old!! It's this cooked cake from the CNNP, called yellow mark, because the character Cha (tea) is printed in yellow ink in the middle of the wrapping.
The leaves are relatively small and only have a faint dry scent after 20 years of aging.
I'm using a woodfired teapot by David Louveau to brew this shu puerh. The color of the brew is quite dark, but not completely black. The first brew has the most taste with the classic earthy and woody notes that one expects from a classic cooked puerh that has aged for a while.
The leaves show that some leaves are still brown and not carbonized. This means that the fermentation was rather light. This explains the light color and energic aftertaste.
